#601-Jamaica

Jamaica is one interesting place: the history, the culture, and of course, the food!   We’ll capture all of that and then some as we travel around the island.   My stops include the annual Portland Jerk Festival, where I will uncover the secrets of jerk goat.   I’ll camp out at the four star Grand Lido Braco Resort-soaking up the sun and sampling some great cuisine.   And, you’ll be treated to signature drinks at Margaritaville, and wonderful food at Blue Runnings and Toscanini Restaurants.   Food, fun, and fantastic scenery as Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert takes on Jamaica!

#602-Newfoundland and Labrador

Canada’s newest province, having joined the nation in 1949, Newfoundland and Labrador might also be Canada’s most unique province.   Newfoundland and Labrador starts with the ocean and the bounty it provides.   We’ll get a stomach full of that as I visit Petty Harbor-home to the local fishing industry.   I’ll anchor my stay at the St. John’s Fairmont hotel, which is so important that natives simple call it “THE” hotel.   I’ll drop by some great restaurants, visit a old fashioned neighborhood grocery store, and taste some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had at Moo Moo’s, a local tradition.   It’s a maritime adventure as only Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert can do it!

#603-Chile-Bio Bio Valley-Santiago Markets

Journey to the Bio Bio Valley, the southernmost edge of Chile’s wine producing region, for a visit to Canata-one of Chile’s up and coming wineries.   In a country known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Canata excels at Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.   We’ll match those wines, and others, to some authentic Chilean cuisine, and taste the wines with Canata’s excellent winemakers.   After, hang on for a tour Santiago’s main produce and seafood markets where we’ll see how the locals shop and what they eat.   Lambs-head stew or a hot dog with mayonnaise anyone?

#604-Napa Valley Gems-Cakebread Cellars, Cuvaison, Franciscan Oakville Estate

There’s no other place on earth like The Napa Valley-the sun, the vineyards, the wines, and the food are second to none.   This show turns the spotlight on three Napa Valley winery stars.   At Cakebread Cellars, learn how Jack Cakebread turned an Oakland auto shop into a Napa Valley winemaking legend.   At Cuvaison, see the birth of a winery in the cool Carneros region where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay shine.   And, at Franciscan Oakville Estate, we’ll learn, among other things, about the creation of one of California’s great Bordeaux-style blends.   The category is called Meritage and the wine Magnificat.
